The Detroit Tigers will head to Kauffman Stadium to open a quick 2-game series against the Kansas City Royals. So far this season the team who leads the series between the two is Detroit by 10-6. The Royals are now 67-87, 4th in the AL Central, coming after a 4-game series win (3-1) at home over the Chicago White Sox, but snapping a 7-game winning streak in the closer. The starting pitcher for Kansas will be right-hander Luis Mendoza who will be making his first start of the season in the MLB, coming from the Omaha Storm Chasers where he has done a very good job, with 12-5 and a 2.18 ERA. He has pitched 8.1 in the past against the Tigers, getting 0-1, and huge 15.12 ERA. On the other side, Detroit, 89-64, clinched a playoff spot allready, and are in a good form, winning 8 of their last 10 games. They will bring up right-handed veteran Brad Penny, 10-10, 5.07 ERA who is coming after a ND against the White Sox, although he managed to give only 1 run on 8 hits in 6.0 innings. In his career he has pitched 20.0 innings against the Royals, getting a 1-1, 2.70 ERA record out of them with late success in his only start of this season when he went up 8.0 innings with a shutout. The Tigers aren`t the best team in road games with 44-35 but still they managed to take 5 out of 7 this season at Kauffman Stadium and with the current pitching match-up and the fact that even though Mentoza was excelent in the minors he has a career ERA when pitching at the big level of 8.43 and with almost double the success when he`s met Detroit. The odds offered by the bookmakers are pretty eaven, slightly favoring the Royals but I will go with the Detroit Tigers who in my oppinion are the real favorites.

cheers
